Steer Wrestling: The rainy day made for an interesting evening of steer wrestling as contestants braved the mud to compete for a chance at Sunday’s championship round. Josh Garner turned in the fastest time of the night with a 4.6 second run. While Garner’s time was the quickest, it was Jason Thomas who was the crowd’s favorite as he not only wrestled his steer down in 7.1 seconds but did it in the middle of the gigantic mud puddle that had formed directly in front of the timed event chutes.

Tie-Down Roping: It was a family affair in the tie-down roping as first cousins Stetson Vest and former World Champion Tuf Cooper took home top honors in the 1st performance of this year’s rodeo. Cooper is the youngest cowboy to reach the million dollar mark in professional rodeo at the age of 22.

Barrel Racing: Returning to defend her championship from a year ago, local cowgirl Shenna Robbins turned the second fastest time of the night moving her into second place overall and a chance to repeat as the Clovis Rodeo barrel racing champion on Sunday.
