Jim
and Jack Gage were born and raised here in Clovis. In 1964 they
convinced the owners of Jims Place that they needed a band.
So "The Gage Twins" were born, playing mostly country
with a little rock and roll, mixing humor and interacting with
the audience. From the 60’s through the 70’s they made their
mark all over Fresno and Clovis. The Gage Twins became a household
name with a huge following. Their success earned them an income
and they would keep their house band gigs for years at a time.
Among the most popular places around town where they ‘packed
the house’ was Jim’s Place, Nashville West, Wild Bills in Bakersfield,
Troisi’s (or The Cattle Baron), Gold Coast Saloon, The Crazy
Horse Saloon (located in the old Hacienda on Clinton ave), Fresno
Feed n’ Fuel, Piccadilly Inn Airport and Press Room.
Somewhere in between they decided to change the name to Double
Gage. In the mist of playing locally they also traveled the
Pacific West and were the opening act for several country stars
. They struck up a friendship with Johnny Rodriquez and he would
frequently drop in and join in a song. For many years they dedicated
writing songs and recording albums and singles. They have 3
albums and about 6 singles.
Jim and Jack have remained popular mostly because of their outstanding
vocals and harmonies that brothers give to one another. And
although they have had a talented mixture of players through
the years two band members still remain, bass player Larry Young
and steel guitar-lead guitar and vocals Tom Jordan.
