Cody Nance of Paris, TN took home the title of champion tonight at the PBR Bull Riding Challenger Tour in Clovis riding Mental Man. Nance earned $12,000 for his winning ride and helped to kick off the start of the Clovis Rodeo weekend. A 95 year tradition for the community, it is a month long celebration of their western heritage.
The PBR's Challenger tour features the sports rising stars that are one step away from competing in the Built Ford Tough PBR Tour. Tonight more than 40 contestants competed in a field of world champions including Mike Lee from Decatur, TX and Ednei Caminhas from Denton, TX. Some of the top PBR riders who hit Clovis for some of the wildest rides in professional bull riding also included Mark Lopes (Jackson, CA), Cory Rasch (Cuberland Furnace, TN), Chad Denton (Berry Creek, CA), Cody Ford (Umatilla, OR), Tanner Girletz (Cereal, AB), Rocky McDonald (Hachita, NM) and Reese Cates (El Dorado, AR).
Clovis Rodeo action continues on Friday, April 24 with the official start of PRCA Clovis Rodeo action at 5:30 pm followed by a concert with multi-platinum country performing group, LONESTAR. Two days of rodeo activities will go through the weekend beginning with the rodeo parade at 9:30 am Saturday morning through the streets of Old Town Clovis, followed by the rodeo at 2:00 pm. On Sunday, April 26 the final rodeo performance is at 2:00 pm.
Lucky rodeo fans in the community will also have a visit from some of the local Clovis Rodeo Association board members and Clovis Rodeo queen candidates on Friday, April 24. All a part of the Association's efforts to remind the community of their western heritage.
