2008 Clovis Rodeo Queen Contestant
Shanah Ogden
Horse Power My mother has attended nearly every Clovis Rodeo Parade for the past twenty-five years except for one, April 24, 1988, the year my brother and I were born. The daughter of Dave and Tammy Ogden, I am nineteen year old Shanah Ogden, representing the Clovis Kiwanis Club. An aspiring X-Ray technician, I am currently in my second year at Fresno City College.

I may be a rodeo baby, but the typical Rodeo Queen story I do not have, you know the one where you grow up on a ranch and everyone hi the family rides horses. My story is quite the opposite, in a family of seven; I am the only one that finds horses to be more than just cool animals. My twin brother describes horses as "dogs on steroids." The only person in the family that used to ride horses was my aunt. As a child I would go once a week to find her horse, Jipper, standing at the front gate waiting for me. I always wondered how she knew I was coming.

After two years of long days and getting my hands dirty working for a petting zoo and any other job I could find I saved enough money to buy my first horse. Convincing my dad that I was ready for the commitment that a horse would demand took most of that time. But two years of begging and every now and then a tear from a ten year old was enough to make any man crack. I bought
Champion.

Horses are my addiction but I'm not what you could call single minded. While at Clovis High I was the team captain of the junior varsity water polo team and the school mascot for four years. In addition to horse competitions I also race dirt bikes. I have been riding motorcycles with my family before I could walk and competing for the last two years. You could call it a family affair.

Still the most influence in my life, even before family and horses is Church. Church has been a big part of my life, from Awanas to Jr. High and High school youth groups. Now as a leader in a high school youth group, a passion for serving and following God's will for my life is strong. I believe that it is His will for me to run for Miss Clovis Rodeo. God has been and will always be my strength.

Thank You Clovis Rodeo Association for this amazing opportunity. But most of all Thank You to my parents, Gary Van Hoosen, and Sandy Western for all your hard work and sticking hi there with me, I would not have made it this far with out you. Good luck and best wishes to all the other contestants and God Bless.
