Hoffmann |
Hello,
I am Ashley Hoffmann, and if there is one thing I have learned
in my 21 years, it is that hard work and the refusal to quit when
faced with challenges are essential elements in life. I spent
my early years in the manicured suburbs of Boston, studied native
dance for several months in the tropical paradise of Tahiti, and
conditioned high-spirited Arabian horses by racing across the
pampas of Argentina. In high school my theory on nitrate cycles
in estuaries earned me a trip to the International Science Fair,
held not far from what rubble remains of the infamous Berlin Wall.
But no matter what exotic vistas I encounter, they all pale in
comparison to the breathtaking rolling hills of Steinbeck country
in Salinas, the place I now call home.
Like many other young women, I tried, and even sometimes excelled,
in a number of activities on the road to finding my passion in
life with horses. In high school, I was a Mission Trails Athletic
League doubles champion in tennis, competed at the state championships
with my team and won the varsity coaches award. I also served
as sophomore and senior class president, and was a high-honor
role student and an Advanced Placement scholar. Currently, I attend
Stanford University, where I am double-majoring in Philosophy
and Political Science, with a goal to continue on to law school.
The one common denominator in these achievements is the part that
horses have played in my success. My willingness to work hard,
ability to focus, and dedication to excellence have all stemmed
from my time with horses. The most important lessons I have learned
in life have been while I was on the back of (or sometimes on
the ground underneath) a horse. I have served on the Pageant of
Flags committee running flags at the Salinas California Rodeo,
I was a member of the California High |
School Rodeo Team for district
4, won the
Twain Hart horseshoe tournament championship, and last summer
I was Champion at the Carmel Valley Award Series. Luckily, in
college I am still able to spend time on horseback, as I am
the Stanford Western Equestrian Team Captain and ride Open Rail
and Reining for the team.
I am honored to be the 2007 Miss Clovis Rodeo
Queen and I am confident that I am well prepared with the necessary
attributes that a rodeo ambassador should possess. I would like
to thank the Clovis Rodeo Association for this opportunity and
the Clovis Kiwanis Club for their support.
