2008 Clovis Rodeo Queen Contestant
Sophia Fisher
While listening to the radio station that was advertising the Clovis Rodeo Queen Contest, Sophia exclaimed, "Mom I want to be the Clovis Rodeo Queen." This same proclamation followed every Clovis Rodeo that she and her family attended. An ambitious young woman who is determined to accomplish her goals, Sophia's passion for horses developed in the rolling hills of Clovis, where she started riding Paso Fino horses at the age of ten.. An introduction to vaulting soon followed where she excelled at this sport of performing gymnastics on horseback. The showing of Quarter Horses rounds out her horsemanship skills.

The daughter of Larry and Jennifer Fisher, and the little sister of Chadwick, Sophia is a 2005 graduate of Buchanan High School in Clovis, where she was an honor student. Currently she is a junior Bulldog at Fresno State, majoring in agricultural business. Fresno State was a natural choice for Sophia, as it will also enable her to continue her passion for horses through their Equestrian program.

Sophia has become a remarkable equestrian in the showing of Paso Fino horses and vaulting competitions, receiving numerous awards in both of these events. She was the high point women's bronze medalist of the year in vaulting, and
achieved excellence in the vaulting world by earning the silver medal. She has received numerous California and National Paso Fino awards, including Reserve National Champion in Country Pleasure and National Champion in the costume class. Her Paso Fino gelding was in the top five high point standings in the United States.Throughout the years, Sophia has also been involved in her community. She has shared her love of horses and vaulting with disabled children. Sophia states, "It is amazing to witness their muscular control and strength improvements, and their self-esteem grow. " Sophia's brother, Chadwick joined the Marine Corps in 2004. This initiated the biannual event of baking dozens and dozens of cookies for the troops in Iraq. She supports Breast Cancer Research by running in the Susan B. Koman Race for the Cure on an annual basis. Professional dedication is important to Sophia. She is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the California Paso Fino Horse Association, the Paso Fino Horse Association, and the United Equestrian Foundation. Sophia wants to thank the Clovis Rodeo Queen committee and her sponsor, the California Paso Fino Horse Association for the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Clovis Rodeo. She would also like to thank her parents for their guidance and support. Last, but not least, she sends best wishes of good luck to all the young women who will be competing for the opportunity of representing the Clovis Rodeo.
