Make Plans to Attend
the 2009 Clovis Rodeo - April 23rd - 26th |
Are
You Tough Enough to Wear Pink? |
The
Tough
Enough To Wear Pink campaign debuted at the
Wrangler National Final Rodeo when one evening of competition
was devoted to the fight against breast cancer. Cowboys and
cowgirls were encouraged to wear pink to signify their support,
and sponsors made donations. The event became known as Pink
Night, and a ground swell of support from the western industry
and rodeo community began to grow.
The Clovis Rodeo Board has proudly announced that Are
You Tough Enough to Wear Pink is the theme
for the 95th Annual Friday Night Performance of the Clovis Rodeo!
Be sure to spread the word and wear your pink shirts, pink hats
and maybe even your pink boots!
The Trading
Post Shopping Center is the sponsor for this event,
they are donating an additional $100 to each event winner that
wears a pink shirt at the Friday performance. They are also
donating $.25 per paid admission for Friday's rodeo. The Clovis
Rodeo Association is matching that donation. This will
result in $200 for the winner of each event that wears a pink
shirt (7 events), and $.50 for each paid admission for the Friday
rodeo performance will be donated to the local chapter of the
Susan
G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Tough
Enough to Wear Pink program is the brainchild
of Terry Wheatley, a breast cancer survivor, and Karl Stressman,
Director of Special Events for Wrangler. Explains Wheatley,
"Breast cancer has touched us personally. Last year we put our
heads together to think of a way we could make a difference
and helped form this program.
We weren't sure if we could convince the cowboys to wear pink
but, yes, they are tough enough!" exclaims Wheatley. "The rodeo
community is always ready to reach out to those in need, and
supporting the fight against breast cancer is no exception,"
says Wheatley.
So join us, the Clovis Rodeo Association and many others in
raising awareness and gathering funds for the fight against
breast cancer! Please support this year-long, western industry-wide
fundraiser to raise awareness for breast
cancer research through the Tough
Enough to Wear Pink campaign, being launched
by western retailers and at rodeos nationwide throughout 2009.
