Mutton Bustin' is an event for kids that's become a real crowd favorite. For those who have never seen Mutton Bustin', the event goes like this: Sheep are loaded in a bucking chute just like the bucking horses and bulls. The youngsters, all dressed in their finest western wear, each have a turn being loaded on a lamb. When they're ready to ride, the chute is opened and out they come.

When a sheep barrels out of the chute with a tiny cowboy or cowgirl clinging to its woolly back, that’s when rodeo parents get their first gray hairs. The participants, the kid and the sheep, have their own idea of what should happen now. The sheep wants the rider gone and the rider hangs on for as long as they can. The kids are timed and judged just like their professional cowboy counterparts.

Every child's a winner, receiving high fives from the clowns and the applause of the crowd. The range of expertise doesn't differ much from that of bull, bareback or

saddle bronc riders. Some quickly fall off, while others hung on for dearlife or eight seconds, which ever comes first. Whether they fall off, hang on to the side of their advesary, or get rolled on, every one of these kids get a huge applause from the audience for being brave enough to attempt the ride in the first place.
