Mutton
Bustin' is an event for kids that's become a real crowd favorite. For
those who have never seen Mutton Bustin', the event goes like this:
Sheep are loaded in a bucking chute just like the bucking horses and
bulls.
The youngsters, all dressed in their finest western wear, each have
a turn being loaded on a lamb. When they're ready to ride, the
chute
is opened and out they come.
When a sheep barrels out of the chute
with a tiny cowboy or cowgirl clinging to its woolly back, that’s when
rodeo parents get their first gray hairs. The participants, the kid
and the
sheep, have their own idea of what should happen now. The sheep wants
the rider gone and the rider hangs on for as long as they can. The
kids are timed and judged just like their professional cowboy counterparts.
Every child's a winner, receiving high fives
from the clowns and the applause of the crowd. The range of expertise doesn't
