| Stan King was born in Visalia California on November 5,1932, to Jonathan and Margaret King. The King family moved to Fresno in 1937. Stan entered the Fresno school system and graduated from Roosevelt High School in June of 1950, where he participated in a variety of school activities, including athletics, student government, and even the senior class play. He attended Fresno State College classes for one year and also played on the junior varsity baseball team.
In June of 1951, Stan married his high school sweetheart, Rita Stimmel, and shortly after began his 33 year career in the poultry industry. Stan and Rita spent eleven years in Visalia and were transferred back to the Fresno area in 1964, at which time they and their five children, settled in Clovis. In a short time Stan became involved with community and school activities, which led to his joining the Clovis Lions Club, becoming a member and later the president of the Clovis High School Boosters Club, and a co-chair of a Clovis Unified School Bond Committee. This led to further civic involvement, including serving on the City of Clovis Personnel Commission. A run for a City Council position in 1974, led to two terms as a council member and serving as Mayor from 1976 to 1978, and again from 1982 to 1984.
Stan is a firm believer in public service and personal involvement in community and civic affairs, for self esteem and the betterment and improvement of society in general. He has served in a variety of ways, included but not limited to, thirty plus years as a Clovis Rodeo Association member, serving as Treasure, Vice President, and five years as President from 1985 to 1990. In 1984 Stan retired from his poultry operation and was hired to become the Managing Director of the Clovis Memorial District. During this eleven year period he continued other civic activities and involvement, including eight years as the public member of the Fresno County Local Agency Formation Commission, four years as a Fresno County Planning Commissioner, one year as Chairman, and is presently serving as Clerk of the Board of the Clovis Cemetery District, where he has served for the past eight years.
Stan has served a combined total of over seventy four years on these and other public boards, commissions and local organizations representing the Clovis community and Fresno County. Stan was honored by being inducted into the Clovis Citizen's Hall of Fame in 1997.
Stan and Rita are the proud parents of five children, son Randy, daughters, Judi, Pat, Susan, and Cheryl, and their spouses, have blessed them with eight grand children, and three great - grand children. They are all a proud tribute to their 57 years of marriage.
Stan would like to thank the Rodeo Association for this honor, which is a crowning lifetime achievement and is greatly appreciated. He said the only thing that exceeds this honor are the many friendships and pleasant memories Rita and he has accumulated over the past thirty plus years of being allowed to serve the Rodeo Association membership, both those who have past on and the present members.
