2009 Clovis Rodeo Queen: Brittany Slaton

2009 Rodeo Queen - Brittany Slaton

Hello Everyone,

For those of you whom I haven't had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Brittany Slaton and I am your 2009 Miss Clovis Rodeo. For the past year I have had the amazing opportunity of representing the Clovis Rodeo at numerous events all across the state. We put on one of the most fun and exciting rodeo's and contests that I have ever been a part of. As a contestant I had the opportunity to be a part of the Big Hat Festival which was one of my favorite events prior to the rodeo. Throughout rodeo week we tour many hospitals and send well wishes to the community. We also take part in the Annual Blood Drive where we interact with and thank all of the generous donors. The Clovis Rodeo Parade is one of the largest and most well run parades I have been in yet. The attendance is amazing and I loved every minute of it. My first official duty started out that Sunday with the Special Kid's Rodeo and the last performance. I was still on cloud nine that day and have yet to come down all year. I had the honor of attending the Annual Clovis Rodeo meeting and getting to know the committee a little better. It takes a truly special group of people to put on a rodeo and our committee is no exception.

The following weekend is the Bakersfield Stampede Days Rodeo which is my old stomping grounds. Having represented them in 2006-2007 I always try and make it back. It rained so hard that Friday night but we had a blast all weekend. It was such an honor to attend the Clovis Mayor's Breakfast where I was seated on a stage in front of dignitaries from that county. I really enjoy interacting with all of the wonderful people in the community. I think it is a place that sets the example of the ideal community. In June I traveled to Reno for the exciting Reno Rodeo. There were so many state and local queens there! I was able to ride in the stage coach as well as the wagon. I had the pleasure of representing the Clovis Rodeo at the Miss California Rodeo Salinas contest. It is a huge honor to represent both prestigious rodeos and it is a feat that is only done every few years. My favorite events are always the ones that I get to come back to Clovis for. I attended the Valentine's Day Luncheon at the Veteran's Hospital where I went room to room handing out Valentine's Day cards and well wishes. The Cowgirl U event is becoming a big tradition and I encourage all women to come and enjoy a day of rodeo education.

As my year comes to a close I look back on all of the amazing people who have helped me along this journey. The Clovis Rodeo committee as well as the queen committee has welcomed me into their family and I am so proud to be a representative of this organization. I would like to thank my family, friends, the Clovis community and my sponsors for all that they have contributed to this amazing year. I know the girls who will follow me will have as equal a fantastic year as I did. They say that the road to the Miss Rodeo California Pageant passes through Clovis and I very much believe that. Thank you again to everyone who has made such a tremendous impact on my life.

Always,
Brittany Slaton
