Clovis Rodeo Queen Contest

2011 Rodeo Queen - Courtney Thomas

The Clovis Rodeo celebrates the tradition of having a dynamic young lady serve as Miss Clovis Rodeo. Candidates who compete for the coveted title each year must not only display exceptional horsemanship skills, but be involved in their communities. Miss Clovis Rodeo represents the Clovis Rodeo and our community at events and rodeos throughout California.

We appreciate the commitment of all of the candidates who compete for the coveted title of Miss Clovis Rodeo. Representing traditional western values the young ladies who work so hard to compete each year are winners before they even begin. The 2012 Miss Clovis Rodeo will receive more than $3000 in scholarship funds towards her education and related gifts donated by the many generous sponsors of the competition.

Courtney Thomas of Fresno Crowned Miss Clovis Rodeo

Miss Clovis Rodeo, Courtney Thomas of Fresno was crowned during the Saturday performance of the 97th Clovis Rodeo. Born in Van Nuys, California, Courtney was raised in the small southern California town of Westlake Village by her parents, George and Marri Thomas. She started riding horses at five years old and continues to ride today.

Asked about her love for horses she said she "strongly believe horses have taught me things that people cannot. I am in love with the sport (of horseback riding) because of the strong spiritual relationship it has created between horse and rider." Growing up she rode and performed all over the nation with the Foxfield Drill team, who are well known for riding without bridles or saddles. In high school, she regularly volunteered at the equine-assisted therapy facility, Strides Therapeutic Riding for mentally and physically handicapped people and was captain of her high school equestrian team.

Courtney's sponsor for the 97th Miss Clovis Rodeo competition was the Law Offices of Nuttal and Coleman in Fresno. She is currently attending California State University, Fresno.
